Sing it into a music box.
Hum a tune, sing it on “doo” or whistle it. Lidsong finds the notes on your iPhone and pins them onto the strip of a real 18-tooth music-box comb, with a bass note and simple harmony.
Wind the brass key, then lift the lid. The tune starts as the stop lever lets go, muffled at first and brighter as the lid opens. Close it mid-phrase and it stops on that pin.
The comb, the pins and the governor are modelled in code, so the box is played, not a recording.
What it does
- Sing any tune, or tap along with it, then edit the strip hole by hole in the Workshop.
- Three tunes to start: Twinkle, Twinkle; Brahms’ Lullaby; Silent Night.
- Send a box as a gift: a link that opens in an App Clip on iPhone, a 9:16 video, or a .lidsong file.
- On iPhone Duo the phone is the box: the outer screen is the lid you wind, and opening the phone lifts it.
