Playing the box

Turn the brass key in a circle, clockwise, to wind the spring, or tap the knurled brass knob on the mechanism below the lid: each tap winds one turn. Then lift the lid: on iPhone Duo, open the phone; on any other iPhone, swipe up on the lid. The tune starts once the lid passes about 15 degrees. Close the lid and it stops on the pin it reached; open it again and it carries on from there.

Singing a tune

Tap Sing and hum slowly on “doo”, close to the phone, for up to 20 seconds. If Lidsong can’t hear separate notes, choose Tap along and tap once for every note while you hum. Open the Workshop to punch, remove or move holes by hand, change the comb, or turn harmony off.

Gifts

Tap Gift, write a few words on the tag and send the link. On an iPhone with a recent version of iOS it opens in an App Clip, with no download. You can also send a 9:16 video of the box playing, or the .lidsong file, which opens in Lidsong.

Lidsong Unlock

The unlock is a one-time purchase, shared through Family Sharing. To restore it on a new iPhone, open Settings in Lidsong, or the Lidsong Unlock page, and tap Restore purchases. Once bought, it works without a connection.
